GCWC Distinctives

A good book proposal includes a section called "distinctives" that explains why that book is different from the others on a similar topic and therefore should be published. While there are many wonderful writers conferences, the Glorieta Christian Writers Conference has several things that make it different from others. These distinctives are why we believe this is the conference for you!

Meet the Pros
With a faculty of over 100 experts, it can be difficult to meet with everyone with whom you want to connect. The Meet the Pros Roundtables will give you an opportunity to interact with three different Professional Writers in a group appointment type setting. Each evening, just before dinner, each of the Professional Writers will be addressing a specified topic with six people at a roundtable. They will share basic information on their topic for the first ten minutes with the remaining twenty minutes for questions and answers. A complete listing of Meet the Pros topics will be provided in the registration packet along with a sign-up for your preferred roundtables. After the half-hour sessions, the group will disperse for dinner. At this time, attendees will get their food and may rejoin the roundtable and continue the discussion or sit elsewhere--with a different Pro, or with friends.

Designated Dining
As addressed above, at dinner on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday you will have the opportunity to sit with the Professional Writers. During lunch on those days you will be able to sit with the editors of your choice for informal conversation. Each editor will be assigned a table indicated by a placard with their name. Tables will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For breakfast each day, you are invited to join other attendees with similar interests. Based on the survey results, different tables will be designated for those with an interest in fiction, nonfiction, magazine writing, etc.

Bonus Sessions
Due to flight schedules and personal plans, many attendees may be arriving early in the day before the official conference opening and departing well after the closing session. If you are one of those, there are some bonus sessions you can attend. The Prologue Sessions are before the conference and the Epilogue Sessions are after the conclusion. These bonus sessions are available to you at no additional charge! See the
Specific Sessions page for topic listings and check the website for complete class descriptions.

Just Write
Today's publishing environment virtually requires writers to be marketers as well. Yet many writers desire to be published without having to develop an entire ministry. These writers may be homeschooling moms, missionaries, seniors or homebound, and have valuable insights to share. If you fit this description, we have developed a Comprehensive Class and a complete track of workshops with you in mind. Come to the GCWC, get encouraged--and get published!

Critique Services
Why pay for services you don't need? While some conferences advertise "free" critiques, their registration fees are considerably higher than the GCWC's. At the GCWC we offer a variety of for-fee-critiques to help you grow and be your best. Complete information on writing critiques and charges will be sent with your registration packet and is available on the website.
