Get
Published Now!
Writers' Guidelines
"I
want to Get Published NOW!" Have you ever
said that to your friend or sister? Sometimes the
road to that first publishing credit seems long and
hard to travel. It feels like you will never be
able to say, "I am a published writer."
If
you have had those thoughts, you can be encouraged.
At the Glorieta CWC this year, you can take
advantage of the Get Published Now class. You can
arrive at the conference an unpublished author and
leave the conference as a published author after
participating in this years Get Published Now
class.
What
is "Get Published Now!"?
- A
class developed for writers who are trying to
get credits in their publishing portfolios but
want the process to move faster
- A
continuing class limited to 24 attendees(Must be
registered for the conference to apply)
- Class
where participants have the undivided attention
of 13 professional writers and two publishing
professionals the entire time
- Classroom
access all during the day for extra work time,
if desired
- Admission
to class by application prior to the conference.
$133.44 surcharge for this class (includes
$26.68 nonrefundable application fee)
What
does "Get Published Now!" include?
- 1
mentor for each 2 students during class time for
hands-on help
- Daily
writing instruction
- Guided
implementation of techniques
- 20
copies of a published, compiled book made up of
articles written by the members of the Get
Published Now! class. The books will be mailed
to you about a month after the conference. There
will also be an opportunity to order additional
books at a reduced price.
- At
the conclusion of the class, each student could
have as many as three pieces ready for
submission (depending on how fast they work):
the original article which will be in the
compiled book, a piece for CBN.com, and a
devotion for the Upper Room. The CBN.com piece
and the Upper Room devotion can be developed
from a nugget of the original article and
submitted after the conference if time does not
permit completion during the
conference.
- Lifelong
friendships with class participants and
mentors
If
you are thinking about participating in Get
Published Now!, dont wait. Apply now. Linda
Gilden, class coordinator, says, "This is a
wonderful opportunity to make giant leaps toward
your career goal of becoming a published author.
Dont hesitate. Participants receive so much
for their investment in this class. It has been
really exciting this year to hear from GPN alums
who have been published again since the class. Hope
to see you there!"
Note:
Your writing should have good reader appeal but
need work. If it is already perfect, you do not
need this class.

Linda
Gilden is the coordinator of the Get Published
Now comprehensive class. On the faculty of several
national writers conferences each year, Linda
enjoys helping people discover and develop their
writing talents. "The most fun part," she says, "is
seeing the light bulb come on, watching
a new writer discover what it really means to show
and not tell or finally understanding why you have
to get rid of all the extra verbiage." The light
bulb comes on frequently in the Get Published Now
class as mentors guide participants to new levels
in their writing.
Linda Gilden is an award-winning author of hundreds
of articles appearing in publications such as
Focus on the Family, Focus on Your Child,
HomeLife, Family Fun, The Lookout, Discipleship
Journal, Writers Digest, and others. Her books,
Love Notes in Lunchboxes and other ways to color
your childs day and Love Notes on His
Pillow and other everyday ways to keep your love
alive, by New Hope Publishers are part of her
Love Notes series. Currently, she is working
on the third book in the series as well as a new
book, Mountaintop Moments for Moms, to be
released in April 2008 by New Hope. Linda has
ghostwritten several books and fills her free time
with her freelance editing business. She is the
founder and leader of a monthly writing group and
is managing editor of The Encourager, a monthly
magazine of her church, First Baptist Spartanburg,
South Carolina.
Lindas favorite pastime is floating in the
lake with a good book! Linda and her husband enjoy
spending time with their family where she finds
lots of inspiration for her writing! Her children
can often be seen rolling their eyes and saying,
"There she goes again. Shes going to write
about this!"
What
last years participants are
saying:
"At
times I did feel stretched. But, by the end I
learned more than I could have imagined. I feel the
training/teaching was well done."
"I
felt that the mentors helped us even more than I
had expected."
"WOW!
What an incredible experience! What an
incredible opportunity!"
"This
is an excellent opportunity for a beginner to
get his/her feet into the door for
publication. Please keep Get Publish Now Class
alive."
"GREAT!!!
I really loved how all the mentors made themselves
available to the participants. No one group seemed
to be in competition with another--which in essence
reflected the spirit of Glorieta. I also loved
how some mentors willingly shared their
information with the whole
group."
