PAID CRITIQUE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

By choosing to use our paid critique service you have shown your commitment to becoming the best, most professional writer you can be. A member of our professional critique team will review your manuscript; however, no one can guarantee publication of your work. They will give you a thorough review of the strengths and weaknesses of your writing, offer suggestions for improvement, and help you identify potential markets.

Each member of the team has a heart for encouraging you as a writer, wherever you are in the development of your career. Your paid critique entitles you to a half-hour consultation with the individual who reviewed your manuscript. Here you can discuss their comments and suggestions, ask questions, and clarify your next step for your manuscript. The critique team member who reviewed your manuscript will return it to you at the conference during your half-hour consultation.

Only registered conferees may submit their own manuscripts for a critique. Please keep your work within the following limitations:

  • Book proposals (including Bible studies) for adults or children (Middle Readers, Young Adult, or Adult): Cover letter to editor, chapter outline/synopsis, and the first ten to fifteen pages.

  • Screenplays: First 10-25 pages of a script, along with a 2-4 page, double spaced, synopsis of the story.

  • Articles and short stories for adults: 1800-word limit.

  • Daily devotionals/Book reviews: 300-word limit, up to four devotionals or reviews per paid critique.

  • Greeting Cards: Five greeting cards equal one critique. (One transmittal form and $35 for 5 cards.)

  • Songs: Three songs equal one critique. (One transmittal form and $35 for 3 songs.)

  • Plays/skits/monologues for adults or children: Up to three skits, three monologues, or a one-act play equal one critique. (One transmittal form and $35 for three skits, three monologues, or a one-act play.)

  • Poetry for adults or children: Five poems equal one critique, 40-line limit for each poem. (One transmittal form and $35 payment for 5 poems.)

  • Books for younger children -- Picture Book, Early Reader, or First Chapter Book manuscripts: 1800-word limit.

  • Activity books or individual pages for children: Up to 10 pages.

  • Children's articles and short stories: 1200-word limit.

  • Curriculum for children: A table of contents and 2-5 chapters; up to 15 pages.

Type all manuscripts in double-spaced, standard manuscript format. Number all pages with your name on each page. Do not bind or staple your manuscript. Make a copy of the Submission Form for each manuscript (critique) submission.

Please submit one copy of your manuscript with a separate Submission Form for each paid critique. NEVER SEND YOUR ONLY COPY OR ORIGINAL ART WORK. Critique team members will write comments directly on your manuscript

Send your form, manuscript, and payment of $35 per critique to Susan Titus Osborn, 3133 Puente Street, Fullerton CA 92835. Submission Deadline is October 15, 2008. Make your checks payable to Susan Osborn, NOT CLASS. If you have questions contact Susan at 714-990-1532 or email her at: susanosb@aol.com.

If you missed the submission deadline for the Paid Critiques, it isn't too late to get your manuscript critiqued and have a half-hour appointment with a professional. Just bring your manuscript, the submission form, and a check for $50 made out to Susan Osborn and hand them in when you register on Wednesday.
