"Be open to speaking in the secular setting. Every slot filed by a Christian has the possibility of communicating truth, and is not filled by a secular speaker." ~Marita Littauer

EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR GLORIETA IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

Marita teaches that speaking and writing go together like a hand in a glove. That's what the Glorieta Christian writer's conference is all about. Writing and speaking!

If God has given you a message to share Glorieta is a great place to develop skills to

  • put your message into writing
  • pitch your message to the editors
  • present your message to the masses
  • promote your message to the public

There's still time to take advantage of the early registration price of $450 (plus NM tax of 30.94), a savings of $50. The deadline for early registration is September 17th.

If God has given you a message and placed the dream of sharing that message to the world in your heart, NOW is the time to step out in faith and do what it takes to make your dream come true. For more information visit our website:
www.glorietachristianwritersconference.com. To register for the Glorieta Christian Writers Conference call 800 433-6633.

Glorieta Christian Writers Conference Information

Roommates

Glorieta LifeWay is no longer arranging for roommates.

If you want a roommate, follow the procedure below:

In the event you don't know anyone else attending the Glorieta Christian Writers Conference, e mail a note to Justine@classervices.com to be inserted in the Weekly Update. In the Subject line, clearly mark "Request for Glorieta CWC Roommate for Inclusion in Weekly Update." We will also send the same information to the Glorieta CWC attendee e- mail list. E mails received by Monday afternoon will normally be included in Tuesday's Weekly Update. Sometimes a Weekly Update will not be sent due to computer technical problems or we may not have the time to scan all of our incoming e mails to find and include your request in that week's Update. That's why it is so important to clearly label your e mail and send them as early as possible! Send text only no graphics, down loads, or links. Clearly state that you want a roommate for the Glorieta Christian Writers Conference; your arrival and departure date at Glorieta; any pertinent requests or facts (e.g., a roommate who doesn't smoke, if you're allergic to perfumes, if you're a morning or evening person); your sex (some first names can be of either gender): and you contact information so those interested can respond directly to you (CLASServices does not keep a list of potential roommates). We are often out of the office and do not have the time to edit your text. Therefore, it is to your advantage to run your e mail by a friend or critique partner before you send it to make sure you've made your request clear. The clearer your request, the more usable your responses will be. When someone contacts you about being a possible roommate, verify his or her arrival and departure dates, their pertinent requests, how the payment will be handled (see below), and contact information. Exchange cell phone numbers in the event you need to contact each other at the last minute. If you don't get a good fit for roommates on the first try, try again. We don't mind posting the notice periodically until you get a roommate.

One of the roommates should call the LifeWay reservations # 1.800.797.4222 and make reservations for both people, including paying deposit for both people on one credit card.  It will not work for each person to call with their credit card info for his/her part of the deposit or for one person to call with both credit cards' info and split the deposit because this would cause confusion in case one of them cancels. The person who calls in the reservation for both needs to collect the deposit from the 2nd person (i.e., they need to settle up amongst themselves). LifeWay recommends that the 2nd person should pay his/her entire portion of the room amount to the 1st person, as this will protect the 1st person in case the 2nd person cancels and the 1st person then has to pay the higher amount (i.e., single rate). NOTE: If one cancels, it will fall to the other person to pay the higher rate (i.e., single rate), as LifeWay sells whole rooms, not partial rooms.

Note that CLASServices and LifeWay are not responsible for the additional cost of the room if your roommate cancels. If this happens, send another message for inclusion in the Weekly Update if there is time.

If you insist on making a lodging reservation without a roommate, you will have to make it at the higher single rate. If you then find a roommate, you can add one, but note the payment method above.

You should find a roommate before the conference.  With the number of guests that typically attend our conference, it would be mass confusion for LifeWay if people are trying to find roommates on registration day.

Shuttle Service

If you will be flying, you will want to fly into the Santa Fe or Albuquerque airport, although the Albuquerque airport usually provides the best schedules and least expensive prices. Roadrunner provides shuttle service between the Albuquerque International Airport and the LifeWay Glorieta Conference Center which is about 90 miles or about two hours travel time. Call 505/424- 3367 at least 48 hours in advance of your arrival. Roadrunner's office hours are 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, seven days a week. They will group rides by time of arrival and, when possible, try to have customers waiting for no more than 45 minutes. Each person is responsible for paying Roadrunner directly by cash or check. Fares from Albuquerque to Glorieta are currently $45 one-way, which includes tax by no gratuity. For shuttle service pickups earlier than 6 a.m. or later than 8:00 a.m. you will need to arrange a private shuttle at a price of $140 one way.

Glorieta Christian Writers Conference Roommate Requests

I would like to share accommodations with a roommate in Deluxe Hall of States facility. I desire access to wireless high-speed internet.

I will arrive by US Airways in Albuquerque at 11:20 AM on October 17. I will depart from Albuquerque on October 21 at 6:10 PM. I have reserved a rental car to drive to Glorieta and would be willing to share the expense with someone desiring transportation.

My telephone number is 425-641-1920 and my email is lorie@lrhbooks.com .

I am looking for women who want to share lodging while they attend the Christian Writers Conference at Glorieta. I am presuming that triple occupancy is the most economical so that's what I desire. I'll be 75 next week, and probably should ask for older women who enjoy writing. I am an early riser (usually). An Okie; a retired teacher; widow of a pastor.

Thanks,

I will be renting a car and would be willing to give someone a ride into the conference. My flight (Southwest from Little Rock) arrives in Albuq. At 11:35 am. On Wednesday Oct. 17.

I would not be available to offer the return trip back into the airport because I won't be leaving until Tuesday at 1:10 pm. Of course if anyone else does stay that long I would be happy to give them a lift. I will be staying over at Glorieta thru Monday night.

Should anyone (or 2 who would want to share the double bed) want to share it I would warn potential roomies that I do snore a bit. Other than that most people find me pretty laid back.

NATIONAL INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK

PITCH YOUR BOOK DURING SEPTEMBER'S
NATIONAL INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK!
--------------------------------------------------------
Did you know...
Nearly 1 IN 2 PEOPLE LIVE WITH ILLNESS?
And 96% of it invisible!
--------------------------------------------------------

Held annually in Sept, this year's NICIAW is September 10-16, 2007. Nearly any book can be given a twist on reaching the needs of the chronically ill--such as marriage, parenting, pursuing one's dreams, getting through difficult times, financial planning, caregiving, stress, dating, dieting, self- esteem, fashion, controlling the clutter, one's career, exercise, and much more.

As a writer/author, now is a great time to plan radio interviews, television appearances, or just distribute a press release or articles online. For more information about this week see http://www.invisibleillness.com . Promotional materials are available for print (free) or purchase (low-priced) if you wish to include them with press-packets. Help us encourage bookstore owners to create book displays (with your book of course!) and call up that media to pitch your illness-related 'hook' today! For statistics, quotes and more to help create your story idea see http://www.invisibleillness.com

NICIAW's committee is also collecting quotes about why Invisible Illness Week is needed. To have your quote considered send it to isa@invisibleillness.com . It may just end up in our next press release!

Baby Changes Everything: Embracing and Preparing for Motherhood after 35
By Beth K. Vogt
Revell Publishers, August 2007, ISBN 0800730674
8.3 x 5.5 Paperback, $12.99 US, 192 pages

The face of motherhood has changed. More mothers of preschoolers are in their midthirties and forties than in previous decades. Late-in-life moms may not feel old, but but they do know the medical community's label for a pregnant woman over 35: Advanced Maternal Age." They also know they have unique needs and concerns--medical, emotional, and practical. Written from my perspective as a "mommy- come-lately" at 41, I discuss issues including: understanding medical concerns; keeping yourself healthy before and during pregnancy; adjusting to changes in your relationships; and parenting your "caboose baby." The book's foreword was written by Christian recording artist Twila Paris, who became a mom at forty-one. I also include Cameo Appearances-- interviews with other late-in-life moms and dads.

Writing Opportunities

Two months before Barbara Parentini attended her first CLASS seminar in September 2005, God placed two simple words in her heart-Living Letters. Unsure of what this meant or where it would lead, she created a folder and began to fill it over the last two years.

Living Letters: Letters from the Heart, Letters that Heal, is unfolding into a workshop/retreat and journal. If you have written or received a special letter that has had a powerful, healing effect in your life (or in the life of the other person), a significant letter that conveyed: forgiveness, gratitude, blessing, tribute, and such, please email her at barbara@barbaraparentini.com for questionnaire. I need examples of actual letters, anecdotes, and your stories to share in retreats ; and, possibly to place in a book at a later date (names will be changed). More information about Living Letters retreat and journal, Barbara's recent publications, and Soaring Hearts Cards, are available at: www.giftsbygrace.com or www.barbaraparentini.com .

Join Us Thursday Nights in Personality Trainer Chats!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PT Chatters Wanted! * * * * * * * * *

We would like to invite you to join us at PT Chatters on Thursday nights even if you are not a Personality Trainer. We chat about many issues that pertain to everyday life and how our personalities respond to those around us. This chat room runs a little slower than most, only one topic at a time. Everyone spends time listening and responding to the question or comment at hand before we go to the next. So, if you're not savvy at doing chat rooms this is a good place to learn, feel free to log-in even if you can't make it at the start of the hour (some of us stay late...very late. =])

Many great ideas have been shared, bonds formed and lots of LOL happens in this chat. If you haven't joined us yet, feel free to login even if you can't make it at the start of the hour.

If you have a topic you would like to see "chatted" about, send it in to the CLASS office and it will be put on the schedule.

Personality Trainer Chats begins at 9:00 PM ET, 8:00 PM CT, 7:00 PM MT (where CLASS is located), and 6:00 PM PT and lasts for one hour. However, since we are in a private room, participants are welcome to continue as long as desired. Please follow the following instructions to get to the new CLASS Chat room: Log on to
http://www.classervices.com in your web browser, then click the link that reads "CLASServices Chat Rooms" This opens the "Volano Chat" box. Type in your name in the "Name" box (optional: in the "Your Profile" box you can also type an e- mail address or other personal information), then click the "Volano" button or hit "Enter" to enter the chat room.
